Kinsake doesn’t replace a will, and nothing in it is legal or financial advice.
Effective date: October 15, 2026.
Terms of service
These terms are an agreement between you and Kinsake (“we”, “us”) for using getkinsake.com, app.getkinsake.com and our emails. By creating an account or joining the waitlist, you agree to them. Please also read our Privacy Policy.
What Kinsake is, and isn’t
Kinsake helps a household keep important information organized, reminds you what’s due, and hands that information to people you choose if something happens to you.
Kinsake is not a will, a trust, a power of attorney or a health care directive, and it doesn’t replace them. We’re not a law firm, an accountant or a financial adviser. The Guide and everything else we write is general information, not legal or financial advice, and laws differ by state. For a will, a trust or advice about your situation, talk to a qualified professional.
Who can use Kinsake
You must be at least 18 years old and able to agree to these terms. Kinsake is built for households in the United States.
Your account and your keys
- You sign in with Google, or with your email address and a password or a 6-digit code. Keep your sign-in secure.
- Your File is end-to-end encrypted. Only your password or passphrase, a passkey on your device, or your Recovery Kit can unlock it. We can’t reset them and we can’t recover your File without them. Save your Recovery Kit somewhere safe.
- You’re responsible for what happens in your account, and for keeping your email address current, because handover and security messages go there.
Your information
- What you put in Kinsake stays yours. You give us permission only to store it, back it up and deliver it, sealed, as needed to run Kinsake for you and the people you choose.
- Only add information you have the right to keep and share, including information about other people.
- You can export or delete your information at any time.
Handover
- You choose who is in your Circle, which levels each person can open (Emergency, Incapacity, After death), and how long each wait is.
- When someone asks, we notify you, and you can stop the request with “I’m OK”. If nobody stops it before the wait ends, that level opens for that person. After death also needs a second person you chose to confirm.
Important limits
- We don’t verify deaths, illness or anyone’s identity ourselves.
- A level can open if you don’t respond in time, for example while you can’t reach your phone or email. Use Away mode when you know you’ll be out of reach.
- Emails and notifications can be delayed or fail. Keep your contact details current.
- The wait is enforced by our server; our How protection works page explains this limit.
- We’re not responsible for what the people you choose do with information that is opened to them.
If you stop checking in, we tell your Circle. Nothing opens on its own.
Maya asked to open Emergency
If you don’t stop it, Emergency opens for Maya on Fri, Oct 16 at 9:40 AM. Nothing else opens.
I’m OKThis link stops the request. It can’t open or export anything.
- Emergency24 hours
- Incapacity7 days
- After death14 days, then Sam confirms
- For Maya only: Emergency12 hours
For later messages
A For later message is passed on after After death opens, by someone you chose, through a private link. Anyone who has the link can open the message. We can’t recover a link that has been lost.
Plans, the beta and payments
- During the beta, Kinsake is free, and features may change.
- After the beta, Kinsake has a Free plan and a paid Family plan. If your household is over the Free limits and you don’t upgrade, we don’t delete anything and nobody loses access; you just can’t add more beyond the Free limits.
- Handover, check-ins, “I’m OK”, Away mode, export, the Recovery Kit and The Guide are never paid, and people you add to your Circle never pay to use what you give them.
- Paid plans aren’t available yet. Before they start, we’ll update these terms with the price and the renewal, cancellation and refund rules, and tell you by email. You’ll always see the price before you pay. Payments will be handled by Stripe.
Using Kinsake fairly
Don’t use Kinsake to break the law, to harm, track or harass anyone, to store content you have no right to keep, or to try to get around our security or anyone else’s. Don’t try to access accounts or information that aren’t yours.
Ending your use
- You can delete your account at any time.
- We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts others at risk. We’ll tell you why, unless the law doesn’t allow it, and you’ll be able to export your information first where it’s safe to do so.
- Our shutdown pledge: If Kinsake ever closes, we’ll tell you at least 90 days ahead. Until the last day you can export everything in formats that last without us: a PDF binder, CSV and plain-text files, and a ZIP with your documents, photos, voice notes and videos. Anything kept only on your device keeps working after we close. Then your data on our servers is deleted. It will never be sold.
Disclaimers and limits of liability
- Kinsake is provided as is. We work hard to keep it running and your File safe, but we can’t promise it will always be available or free of mistakes.
- Kinsake isn’t a will, and nothing in it is legal, financial, medical or tax advice. The Guide is general information; for your own situation, talk to a professional.
- You’re responsible for what you put in your File, for keeping your password, passphrase and Recovery Kit safe, and for choosing who is in your Circle. Because we can’t read your File, we can’t recover it if you lose all of them.
- As far as the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Where the law doesn’t allow these limits, they apply only as far as it does.
If something goes wrong
Please write to hello@getkinsake.com first; most problems can be solved that way. We’ll add which law governs these terms and how disputes are handled before paid plans start.
Changes to these terms
We’ll post changes on this page. For important changes, we’ll email you before they take effect.
